Diversity and Inclusion are core values for United Way. We aspire to involve every segment of the community in every aspect of our work and to demonstrate our commitment to and accountability for an inclusive environment in which differences are recognized, respected, valued and celebrated.
In February 2007, the Inclusion Council for the United Way System was formed to build internal relationships and determine how to best leverage diversity to create an inclusive environment. Chaired by a local United Way CEO, the council is made up of 26 leaders from nine targeted segments and has created Business Resource Groups for each of the segments, including:

The purpose of the Inclusion Council is to:
- Help address business and system issues, including enhancing relationships with donors, increasing community engagement and developing professional talent
- Develop a field communication plan for their work
- Convene and lead Inclusion Business Resource Groups to assist them with their work
