The United Way System’s
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION STRATEGY

THREE-YEAR INCLUSION STRATEGY

  • Focus on talent pipeline management and leadership development – Attracting the right talent as well as retaining and developing talent are critical to achieving our mission.  This includes both staff and volunteers.  Some of the work in this area is focused on creating new development opportunities for talent, while some of the work is a strategic approach to deepening existing programs.
  • Build strategic internal and external relationships – Building strategic relationships is vital to every aspect of our business.  We must deliberately work to build relationships that are mutually beneficial within the United Way system as well as within the communities we serve.
  • Create a Culture of Inclusion - Creating an environment in which all people are accepted and valued equally, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnic origins, physical abilities, work background, education, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity and other perceived differences is a challenging task for any organization. By doing things that clearly show our commitment to inclusion, we demonstrate the value we place on the unique perspectives and experiences our staff, volunteers and other stakeholders bring to our system.

Cultivate a Reputation for being Inclusive - Increasing United Way visibility and favorability in selected segments is the final key to United Way’s Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
